What Should You Look for in Screen Resolution

When getting a new Tablet or laptop, one of the most essential factors that buyers need to consider is the display or screen resolution of each Tablet screen. Of course, the higher the resolution, the better. Still, it is sometimes hard to determine what is good especially if you are new to the Tablet market.

What is a Screen Resolution?

As a consumer, we may find it hard to understand what exactly screen resolution means. Often, these topics are discussed on Tablet review sites, but they talk about it in general terms. Screen or screen resolution is best described as “the number of pixels in every dimension” or how much information has been displayed on the screen. The quality of images or videos being shown is actually based on how many pixels it possesses. It is usually termed as SXGA, XGA, SVGA, WXGA, and have aspect ratios of resolution ranging from 600 x 800 to 1024 x 768.

Screen’s resolution is composed of columns and rows (horizontal and vertical) of pixels (dots) which are interlaced (“i”), like for example, 720 x 480i, 640 x 400i and more. It is usually refreshed 30 times in a second to produce a high detailed image or video.

What is a Good Screen Resolution?

The pixel numbers don’t always tell you the whole picture about screen resolution. Looking at different Tablet PC Review sites, much of the buzz about resolution isn’t just about how high it is (in numerical terms), but how it fits the size of your tablet PC screen. However, as a universal rule, it is highly recommended that your tablet PC’s screen resolution should be a 1024 x 768 XGA to have a crisp and clear image or higher than that. This screen’s resolution fits nicely the tablets that have 12”, 13.3”, 14”, or even 15” screen sizes.

What Tablets have Good Display Resolutions?

With the flooding of competition in the Tablet PC market, you can find a handful of brands that offer tablet computers with great display resolutions. Many Tablet PC Review sites show that Samsung seems to be the best when it comes to screen resolutions across their product line. Their new tablet delivers a mind-blowing crisp and crystal clear image with their 2560 x 1600 resolution on their 10.1 inch screen. They also utilize the retina technology (found on iPhone 4 too), which adds it brightness even under the daylight yet reducing power consumption up to 40%!

Other Tablet PCs which have a perfect standard resolution are the Motorola Xoom and the Blackberry Playbook each possessing 1280 x 800 pixels. The Apple iPad and iPad2 are also great at 1024 x 768 pixels.

What Tablets have Bad Screen Resolutions?

There will always be a discussion on what brands have the worst screen resolutions. Lets face it, most of us don’t have a ton of spare cash to buy the most expensive models. This leads us to gravitate towards cheaper Tablets and Brands which can also lead to poorer quality screen resolutions. When we talk about tablets, the price from brand to brands differs a little bit, the key is to find the best value regardless of brand. Tablet brands from China like the aPad or ePad (which are priced at $99) have been noted to have bad screen resolution. Examples of other Tablet PCs with poor screen resolutions are the “Maylong M-150” and Shira which only have a 800 x 480 pixels resolution which is obviously much lower than all other prime tablet brands on the market.

The Verdict

It can be concluded that it’s really wise to invest a little bit of your cash on high quality brands like Asus, Blackberry Playbook, Motorola Xoom, Apple iPad, or Samsung tablets, than to cheap tablets that won’t give you satisfaction. This is especially important when it comes to Screen resolutions since your screen’s ability in displaying images, videos and other elements are the bases for your overall tablet experience.
