Now you have a netbook and it is a must to take great care of your new laptop. The following are tips to care for your mini laptop :
- Screen Care
Do not touch the laptop screen with your finger, pen, pencil, etc. Often the screen looks visibly more dirty than any other parts of a laptop due to marks of fingerprints and dust. Clean the screen with a soft, dry anti-static cloth or with a screen cleaner designed specifically for LCD type screens only. Screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure and never leave any object on the keyboard such as pens or pencils which are very likely to crack the screen when the lid is closed. Screens are the most expensive part of a netbook and their replacement cost often can buy you a new netbook!
- Clean Regularly
It is important to routinely clean the laptop by making sure the vents and fans in the computer are clear and spinning effortlessly.
- Store in a Case or Sleeve
Netbooks are designed for pure mobility. They are, however, more fragile and vulnerable to physical damage than their full-size laptop cousins, which have a heavy-duty build. Keep your laptop fully protected by carrying it in a sturdy, well-padded netbook case when you are out and about. The more padding your laptop case has, the better the protection it will provide.
- Use a Chill Mat
Using a chill mat or cooling pad with your laptop will help to avoid overheating.
- Battery Care
Don’t let the battery completely drain. Immediately shutdown if you are unable to connect to the charger. Get into the habit of recharging the battery when it reaches 10-20%.
- Shut-Down Before Moving
Always completely close the lid and wait for the laptop to enter standby mode before moving it, even for short distances. Movement while the laptop is on can result in permanent damage to the hard drive and therefore the loss of all data.
- Back up your Data
Never consider any electronic information safe when stored on only one device. Backup to a pen/flash drive or to an external drive for large files.
- Hard Drive Maintenance
Mini laptops have smaller hard drive therefore clean unused temporary files to prevent your hard drive from reaching its maximum. Perform checkdisk and defrag operation on the hard drive regularly for optimum performance.
- Avoid Leaving the Netbook in Extreme Hot Environment
Because of the small form factor, heat is your netbooks worst enemy. Avoid keeping your laptop in hot places such as your car during the daytime.
Tips to Speed up Your Netbook
A netbook is a great tool for students, business people or anyone else that needs an inexpensive and very portable computer. A netbook will have certain limitations but there are some things you can do to get better performance. So we have put together some tips to speed up your netbook.
- Increase Your RAM
RAM or random access memory is a huge factor in the performance of any PC or mini laptop. If you have 1 GB or less of RAM the RAM will need to be cleared frequently to allow programs to run and this can slow down our netbook considerably. Simply stated, increasing your RAM will speed up your laptop.
- Getting Rid of Bloatware or Other Unused Programs
Getting rid of programs that youre not using will also help reduce the burden on your RAM helping your netbook to run faster. A lot of small laptops come with software programs preloaded onto them by the manufacturer and many of these programs are ones that you will never use. These unused and unwanted programs that are preinstalled are often referred to as bloatware and if you delete these programs you will increase the speed of your netbook. To get rid of bloatware or any other unwanted programs you just need to go into your control panel and uninstall any programs that you are not using.
- Choose the Right Antivirus Software
A lot of antivirus programs use a lot of memory. Some programs will scan your system very frequently, even when you are not connected to the Internet. Some of these programs will also try to install various toolbars and other things that you don’t need. Try to find an antivirus program that uses less memory and it will help increase the speed of your laptop.
- Don’t Upgrade Your Operating System
When a new operating system comes out it is often tempting to upgrade to get the latest and greatest program available. However, newer operating systems often have bugs that need to be worked out and they may also have a lot of other functions running that just use up its resources on your computer unnecessarily.
- Defrag Your Netbook. Whenever you erase something from your computer there are bits of information that are left behind and whenever you add a new program to your computer the program is saved wherever there is room to save it. When your computer has to go to many different locations to grab various bits of data in order to run programs it takes a lot of extra time and slows down your computer. Defraging your netbook will bring all of these various pieces of data together allowing your laptop to run faster.

By following these tips to speed up your small laptop you should be able to get the most performance possible out of your machine.
