The Best Deals on Alienware Laptop

Alienware laptops have a niche following mostly among gamers because they build unique and powerful notebook computers.

Features included in their systems that many other companies don’t are the fastest processors, lots of memory and high-end graphics cards. In fact Alienware sells many system combinations that are difficult to find anywhere else.

However, all these features come at a cost, which means that Alienware notebooks are not really that cheap. That being said, if you do want to get an Alienware notebook there are a few things I can recommend that may save you some money.

First you need to look at Alienware’s different options for laptops and decide which one is right for you. Currently they sell their laptops under two broad headings. The Sentia line is the cheaper of the two and is designed for more basic laptop use and features Intel Centrino technology that maximizes battery life.

The Area-51 line, on the other hand, is designed more as a desktop replacement and thus features faster processors, but needs to be recharged more often. Moreover, the extra performance that Area-51 has means that their starting prices are about double those for the Sentia line.

Thus, you will have to decide what features you need and what you can do without. In terms of getting a new laptop from Alienware, you don’t really have any choice since they sell them all themselves. The good thing about this though is that you can customize various features of your laptop so you can get what you want and not have to pay for the rest. However, if you are willing to forgo the opportunity to customize your laptop you save lots of money by opting for a used or refurbished model instead.

Used and Refurbished Alienware Laptops

Refurbished and used laptops from Alienware are certainly both less expensive options than buying new. However, one of the most obvious downsides to these options is the fact that you can’t customize your laptop exactly the way you would like it. Also, you almost always get shorter warranty period than when you buy new.

First off I suppose I should explain the different between a used and a refurbished laptop. A used laptop simply refers to the fact that someone else has used the computer before you. This is by far the cheapest and also the riskiest option because you often only get limited guarantees that your laptop will work correctly.

Refurbished laptops, on the other hand, simply refer to process done by either a store or manufacturer whereby they fix minor cosmetic and/or technical problems with a laptop.

Then they are re-certified that they work properly and usually come with some form of additional warranty. In either case the cheapest place to find used and refurbished Alienware notebooks are online auction websites like eBay.

However, before buying from any auction website I have a few tips that can ensure that you don’t get ripped off.

  1. First, always check the seller’s reputation rating and if they have a bad score don’t buy from them. Personally, I don’t recommend that you buy from anyone who has less than a 99% positive feedback rating.
  2. Second, check to see how many transactions a seller has performed before. Chances are the more the better, since you can more certain that you are not buying from some fly-by-night operation.
  3. Finally, read people’s actual feedback comments since these can also be insightful. By following these three simple steps you can seriously reduce your risks of having a problem when buying any refurbished and used Alienware notebooks.
  4. Finally, just double check that you are getting everything you need when you buy. One of the most common things that seller’s don’t include with their Alien Ware laptop is an operating system. And of course this will add to your cost if you have to buy your own copy. This goes for everything else as well including cables, accessories, warranties etc. Just be sure to know EXACTLY what you are bidding on before you buy.
